Our Story
The Zachary Garcia Scholarship Fund was established to honor the loving memory
of Zachary (Zac) Francis Garcia, who left a legacy of leadership, compassion,
friendship and a passion for living life to the fullest.
Zachary Garcia was a twenty-one year old college senior at the
Robert H. Smith School of Business, at the University of Maryland when he passed.
Zac was majoring in finance. One of the highlights of his life was when, as a junior,
he spent his spring semester in Barcelona. Zac's exposure to different cultures and
languages awakened a curiosity that started his love for travel,
which he was able to do while abroad.
Zac was a natural athlete; participating in three sports all throughout
Cresskill High School. He was point guard for the basketball team, co-captain and
goalie for the soccer team and ran hurdles for the track team. Zac was a leader,
team player and competitor. His love of people, coupled with his incredible passion
for life made everyone feel like a friend upon meeting him.
As his friends said, "He was the glue that brought people together."
Zac's compassion and empathy were also boundless.
